Saya menyesal
Oleh Kamarulzaman Pid dan Ahmad Fitri Che
Musaam@hmetro.com.my

This Government does not deserve another chance

These mistakes cannot simply be because of ignorance on the part of the ruling regime; this regime is not merely incompetent, but outright malicious.

People often say that despite all the shortcomings of the present Malaysian regime, they deserve another chance. After all, everything has its ups and downs; we can't expect a perfect government.
Some modicum of incompetence is often to be expected from any human, especially an institution full of humans like the government. Inefficiency and corruption is often a by-product of this incompetence.

But really, what is the logical case for continuing to support this regime, and giving it another chance? The evidence suggests we have given it more than one unnecessary chance to prove itself.

Assuming you care about human rights and all that jazz, or just want a stable legal environment for your business, the regime which has run West Malaysia for over 52 years and East Malaysia for 44 has been given way too many chances.

A present member of the cabinet, Rais Yatim, has already chronicled how this regime has manipulated the laws of the land to its liking far too many times and for far too long. Those who like to think the deterioration of the rule of law and our country's institutions can only be traced to recent times ought to read Rais' PhD thesis, Freedom Under Executive Power in Malaysia: A Study of Executive Supremacy.

But let's assume you don't care about the law or institutions or any of that crap. Let's just assume you like seeing your tax money being well-spent, and the fruits of your labour being well-invested.

We don't have to go very far to see how this regime spends your money. Today's Sun frontpaged the Port Klang Free Zone, which it labeled the "Disaster Zone".

In the early 90s, the Selangor state government gifted 405 hectares of land to some fishermen's co-operative. The co-op sold the land to some company (whose current chairman is the treasurer of UMNO) for an average price of RM2 per square foot. (Each hectare is about 90,000 square feet.)

This same company sold that land to the Port Klang Authority for RM25 per square foot. PKA also granted this company a contract to develop that same land. PKA is now in debt to the tune of RM5 billion. With no source of revenue to pay off this amount, it goes to the government to pay off its loans.

This isn't an isolated event. Almost every other day scandals like this break. But still, not everyone cares about this. I mean, maybe the government is just so stupid that they keep investing in projects that are bound to fail, right?

Let's not kid ourselves, folks. This is not a government that is just a bunch of nice bumbling fools. How does this argument even fly? Do you seriously believe that the flaws of every government failure have not been apparent in some way?

Let's return to this Port Klang Free Zone disaster. The government advised PKA that they could legally force the company concerned to accept a price of RM10 per square foot. And it's patently obvious that PKA could have had an open tender to see if anyone could outbid PKA for the chance to develop the free zone. Heck, it's so obvious that Abdullah Badawi has acknowledged it (of course, he flip-flopped and hedged on when the government would actually get around to implementing open tenders).

I really don't see how you can attribute these disasters, these scandals, to just government ignorance. How much longer are we to persist in believing that this does not come up to the level of outright malfeasance? Until we realise that this is a government that does not give two shits about the country's future, I don't have much hope for Malaysia's survival as a united developing nation.

During TDM's time, I voted for the Opposition bcos I felt that we needed a strong opposition to keep this government in check. But then, I'd always thought TDM was doing a good job in keeping M'sia in constant progress and besides the usual racial discrimination, I felt that overall, it was still bearable to be a Malaysian. That time, if you asked me whether I wanted to migrate, I'd definitely say "No".
Now.....I'm voting for the Opposition bocs there's a need to get rid of this present governemt under the sleeping PM. As simple as that. I'm no longer pround to be a Malaysian, all the recent scandals have put me to shame and yeas, I'm in the midst of applying for migration.
So, no way...this present regime HAS TO GO!!!

BN has cheated, blundered and stumbled far too many times to be given another chance.

They should have been kicked out a long time ago but because Malaysians are forever fools enough to be threatened and hookwinked into returning the BN again and again.

Enough is Enough, we must change and the only way is to vote in the Opposition by whatever name they may be.

Malaysians, we have to make a decision with courage and this salient call is to the malays.

Do you wanna corrupted government who only know how to enrich themselves and their cronies?

I address all right thinking Malaysians, the people who inhabit this most beautiful land, country and nation that we call Malaysia. Our nation is in danger, extreme danger of being swamped by the insatiable greed, utmost dishonesty, blatant corruption and gross stupidity of those whom WE (including me) have helped put in power. I have none other to blame except myself. Never before in the history of our young nation have the lives and the future of so many millions been at the mercy of such a handful few incompetents. We must eradicate this unfortunate condition from this country and make sure that we are never put in these same circumstances again. The time has come to act.

With almost all avenues for free speech and expression tightly controlled by the Government, there is only Cyberspace left open to us. And we are thankful that it is a huge amount of space that we still have. A few good men and women, the ‘Band of Bloggers’, are leading the charge in Cyberspace to correct the things that are wrong with the leadership. This leader has to go out the window into the tong sampah with all the other soiled pampers.

The time has come for all Malaysians who are of voting age to make sure they are registered to vote. This is no more our civic or patriotic duty. It is a matter of life and death. If we wish to live well then please get yourself registered to vote. Tell your children, family, friends and relatives to go and get registered to vote. Do it fast while the voter registration rolls are still open.

And also when the time comes, please go out to vote. Rain or shine, thunder or squall, we must all go out to vote in the upcoming General Elections. And please vote wisely. Recently in Johor Bharu Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad called upon all Malaysians to vote wisely.

Every vote is counted and every vote will count. We have heard of electoral rolls being rigged and elections being stolen - this has happened on all sides - but let this irritation not hinder anyone from voting.

To the Malay voters, you are the largest voting group. Look around and see all that has been wrought. If you are happy, then vote your conscience. If you are not, then show your disagreement.

To the Chinese voters; the large majority of whom are strong supporters of BN; do not be afraid to vote as per your conscience. It is not the end of the world if you do not vote BN. The Chinese have always been a practical people, who are rightly concerned about their wellbeing and the future of their children. After all, in the final analysis, that is all that matters. But because of this the Chinese have frequently been subject to blackmail, coercion and threats. The Chinese fear too much that without a BN government there will be chaos. So they toe the line. Perhaps it is time to step out of line just a little. Not too much but maybe just enough. Trouble only starts if we create it. So let us not create any trouble. Let’s just go about our businesses and go about voting our choice without creating any trouble.

The Indians have always been the most loyal supporters of BN. Their almost undivided loyalty to the BN is legendary. Never in the history of elections in Malaysia has the Indian vote ever been successfully split or deviated away from the BN. But the Indians too must consider carefully where exactly the country is headed. It does not look as if the country is headed anywhere anytime soon.

For the good of the BN and for the future of this country, reduce the support that we have given to the BN.

This is the power of democracy. This is the power of each individual vote. Register as a voter. Voting is your right. Vote wisely.

Cabinet rejects apology from Negaraku rapper

By LOH FOON FONG

KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet has not accepted student Wee Meng Chee’s apology for the furore caused by his Negaraku rap videoclip on video-sharing web portal YouTube.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said the Cabinet had decided yesterday that they were not in the position to forgive him and that “the law would have to take its course”.

“The offence was not against the Prime Minister or ministers concerned but against the nation,” Nazri told reporters after the launch of the International Conference on Media and Information Warfare: A Global Challenge of the 21st Century here.

“If he had committed an offence, which I think was an offence, then we must allow the Attorney General to investigate and decide whether to take him to court,” he said.

Wee had on Tuesday apologised for the parody and agreed to remove the videoclip from his blog.

Nazri said Wee’s apology could be used as mitigation in sentencing but not as a reason to not prosecute him.

“To not prosecute him is not ‘on’ at all because he has committed an offence against the nation and no one, not the Cabinet or political parties, are in the position to forgive him,” he said.

Wee could be charged under the Sedition Act because he had insulted the symbol of the nation, he said.

“We cannot be like the West where you can have the underwear with the design of the Union Jack. In Britain, you can insult the Queen or the flag, I don’t care, but in this country we have laws and we cannot create a precedent where you commit an offence, apologise and get away with it,” he said adding that Wee was not a boy but a 24-year-old man and he should be held responsible for the act.

“It is not an issue of ethnicity or being racial but against national interest,” he said.

When asked how Wee had insulted the national anthem, Nazri said the song was supposed to be sung based on how it should be sung, otherwise, it would mean insulting the song, especially when the lyrics were changed.

“Malaysia Negaraku ku. 'Ku ku' can also mean ‘cuckoo’ so it was insulting. I don’t think this was done out of ignorance. He was a university student and he meant to insult the national song,” he said.

On whether Wee would be called home to answer charges against him, Nazri said the AG would have to investigate and if he comes to the decision to prosecute him, then when Wee returns, he would have to face the charges.

He also said that he wanted action to be taken against video-sharing portal YouTube and other bloggers who have allowed sensitive material to be published that went against the law of our country.

Hey... I see some of you keeps criticizing about the govt, do you think that it is an EASY task to manage a country, maybe your brain is too small and you're too uneducated to think about how complicated it is anyway!!!! It's easy to point your finger at others and start criticizing like you're an expert! You want to know the "Truth", the "Truth" is majority of the people can't even managed their own personal life well, what makes you start to think that you're an expert on how to manage a country well all after sudden? Think about it, you probably don't even know what is really going on outside the world, what makes you start to think that you have a miserable life living here? If we don't learn how to appreciate and change our attitude, our country will never move forward. The choice is yours!

Hey Namewee,

You have great talent and seriously, your rapping is way better then some singers in Msia. One advice though, expand your talent oversea, not here. Though you love your country a lot but I think, the country is still immature for you. They can't accept criticism. It is just a song for crying out loud, and it Negaraku is just playing in the background! Its a bloody remix too so it is not even the original Negaraku. Your title is NEGARAKUKU. So it is entirely two different song. You can raise this argument in court in case you are charged.

Don't come back, pointless, your talent will be wasted. I am currently oversea too.

Good Luck!

But now, some sicker like 拿督斯里納茲里 seems to act brainless by making it an issue again. Sad to see this news and sad to have my vote drop into competitor of BN for coming election, just for a little hope to see better "reformasi" ... a hope and yet still a risk

Dear qualify voters out there .... it is time to think wisely which one u gonna vote since the election getting near, I gave my vote to BN twice and see no healty growth and development of the country. I won't go for BN this round and hope BN won't winning so much seats in cabinet, their competitors are out number in cabinet, the country will die if BN monopolise the cabinet.

Hope u guys sharing the same thinking like me ... give BN a strong competitor in cabinet since MCA alone can't help much anymore.

The problem with our beloved Bolehland is the BN in power too long and came to believe that Malaysia is BN and only BN. They failed to see tha Malaysia belongs to all rakyats and BN is just part of the formation.

If still has hope and faith in Malaysia and choose to come back after you have "learn useful things", be prepared to all the discriminations. If you treasure your talent, pls don't come back until you are famous. If Guang Liang and Ping Guan had stayed n banging their heads in Bolehlah, i bet they are singing in the 7th month getai now.

kena ISA kah?

sedarlah anda berada di negara malaysia. hak agama islam tetap dipertahankan, namun jika demikian sikap anda, bagaimana anda sendiri mahu memajukan negara kamu?

mohon maaf pun salah, tak mohon maaf lagi kecoh dibuatnya.

Honestly, I'm really disappointed with this matter. I'm not disappointed with Namewee, but the government. I just watched the news media and it was HIGHLY bias, it was showing everyone in favor of Namewee being punished, but I do not believe that is the case. There are people who are not in favor of him being punished.

Secondly, I question why is it people who threatened to kill him, burn down his house, hurt his family, and even some idiot in power get to threaten the Chinese race with a keris, all involving serious life threats or physical assault/ danger gets away without being punished? While people want to punish him OVER A SONG that has no threat or anything the like? WHY?

Opposition, you will be having my vote. MCA and BN, you lose my faith.

Namewee...

Lain kali, kalau kamu mahu menggubah lagu, gubahlah. Jadikan ianya lagu yang boleh diterima ramai, bukan hanya bangsa Cina sahaja tetapi seluruh masyarakat.

*sekarang ramai orang Melayu/India boleh berbahasa Cina, orang Cina/Melayu berbahasa Tamil dan macam-macam bahasa lagi...

Maka, kadang-kadang akal kita kenalah panjang sebelum membuat sesuatu tindakan. Kena fikir baik buruknya.

Apapun Namewee, saya harap kamu sukses.

Selamat hari MERDEKA.

I'd rather give chance to any Opposition party which might at least try to do something good for the people. BN had too many chances given and keep loosing confidence from people.

If you want to post something, don't post something immature like vulgar words and racist comments.

Now we want to catch attention of foreign media, but they aren't gonna be interested after reading immature replies from you guys.

Regarding the Negarakuku MV, i as a Malaysian Chinese agrees to most of the content but not all. There are a few words that you use that are on the borderline, for eg those who wear tudung and such, but besides on that, i don't see any place that is insulting the country but telling the truth.

Tun M. reminded bloggers, that UMNO has already founded the "internet army", which would apply obscenity, insultation and humiliation in criticism of the government and politicians, intending to demoralise the blog n blogger, hence reducing their credibility. The reason behind is to assure the public to continue reading the media who is on the government's side.

Baseless accusation never stands.

1.The song does not have any elements of instigation, this proves that the source of instigation (if there is any) is something else (e.g. some newspaper).
2.Except the first video, all other negarakuku videos were not uploaded by Namewee. The first one was already deleted by youtube early in the beginning.
3.No evidence shows how many people's hatred or wrongdoing this song has caused.
4. No evidence shows Namewee has intention of instigation.
5. Namewee did not make this song in Malaysia.
6. Taiwan will not extradict an innocent man based on such absurd reason.

UMNO slaps on MCA face. Chinese communities lose faith on MCA, MCA will lose vote in coming Election. MCA lose is BN lose.

Melayu witness their leaders are so uncivilized. Request Namewee to apology and then later say not accepted. Melayu also lose faith on UMNO who can not make peace but racial tension. UMNO will lose in coming Election. UMNO lose is BN lose.

After all, Namewee lose, MCA lose, UMNO lose, BN lose....

Racial polarisation in the country is not caused by the country's vernacular school system but more by the government political, education and economic discriminative policies, an educationist said today.

The prime minister and all the Umno ministers will never admit that polarisation arises more out of the race-based policies and privileges one race gets over another.

Similarly, there are other areas of our daily lives where terminologies used have made us view certain practices as privileges rather than sacrifices. For instance, the bumi discount for houses.

The total sale value to the developer is still the same. It is just that the non-malay buyer is likely to be required to pay for some of the discount given to the malays.

But the longer the NEP policies continue and the greater the vehemence with which Umno politicians issue threats, terminologies will change and more people will talk about these practices or policies in words that may not sound as pleasing to the ears of the beneficiaries.

Obviously, at that point we shall probably see a new round of discriminations and disagreements. Unfortunately, as long as only weak people take on leadership roles within Umno, threats will continue, NEP policies will be sustained and corruption will prevail.

That unfortunately is the legacy we have as Malaysians.

The basic building blocks of unity, whether you are uniting different ethnic groups in a country or trying to re-engineer a corporation of differing cultural values, are the same.

The principal parties have to be treated as equals - nor special privileges no favours that would favour one group over another. Any privilege that is given should be given to all on the same basis - for example, special privilege given to the financially poor regardless of race or ethnic origin.

It is only on this equitable footing that you can foster true nationalism and build lasting unity, since each component group will have the same stake in the nation and has equal likelihood in reaping the rewards or suffering the consequences.

My recommendation to the government, not simply as a businessman but also based on pragmatism, is not to waste any more taxpayer ringgit on nationalism programmes until it has established the pre-conditions for its success.

What is sad is that, after almost five decades of independence, we have been unable in Malaysia, to bring globally-vision leaders to the forefront - leaders who can see beyond racial boundaries to recognise the immense sociological and economic potential that can benefit all Malaysians.

I was studied in Melbourne for 2 years, I met a lot of Malaysians who had emigrated to the country, some of them are work in big company such as NEC, Nissan etc, some of them open restaurants (there are Malaysian restaurants everywhere in Australia), and their life is fairly and good treated by the locals.

In Melbourne, a lot of Malaysians (99% Chinese) live in a suburbs, most of them send their kids to local schools, and all have no problem on their nationality and race because besides Malaysians, there are also a lot of Japanese, Singaporeans, Turkish, Vietnamese, Indonesians, etc. They can learn their own language without any restriction from the authorities. And everyone is compete on level playing field, everything is based on merit.

The living environment there is very nice, clean air and water (water can directly drink from tap), nicely built roads and residential area, almost perfect mass transit system (although I feel that Singapore is better) where you can live and travel easily without own car. Living cost there is relatively cheaper compare to Kuala Lumpur (dollar to dollar).

The main reason for this migration is that some of them felt that they were second-class citizens (the Chinese) and third-class citizens (the Indians) in the country that they were born in. The high cost of living and non-support from the Malaysia government have also resulted in smaller families among the non-malays.

For those who ran away or are thinking about running, my best wishes to you. But for the others who stand and fight, my respect for you.

As a post-independence-born Malaysian, I would like to offer my thoughts on Article 153 of the federal constitution which mentions the special position of the malays. Please note that there is no mention of the words 'special privileges' or 'special rights' in the constitution.

For too long, there has been a lack of understanding of what our forefathers had in mind when they included this clause in our much talked about social contract. To gain a better understanding, let us take a trip back in time to 1957 to actually visualise the scene then.

In a scenario where the immigrant Chinese and Indians were seeking citizenship rights in Malaysia, it is reasonable to presume that they would have had to understand and acknowledge the difficulties faced by the majority malays.

And this is where the meaning of the words 'special position' comes into focus. What did our forefathers mean by the special position of the malays? Did they mean that the malays would enjoy a higher status than all the other races? Did they mean that the malays would have special rights and privileges in perpetuity?

If this is what our forefathers had intended, then our constitution would have mentioned this specifically. However, the constitution or social contract does not say so.

What then, could the words 'special position' mean? It is reasonable to infer that our forefathers were concerned first by the fact that the malays were left behind economically despite being the indigenous majority in the country.

Secondly, they were concerned by the fact that, despite being immigrants, the Chinese and a small segment of the Indian community were relatively much better off.

The clause was therefore more so of an acknowledgment by the non-malays of the disadvantageous economic situation of the malays. The consideration given by the former to the latter when entering into the social contract for citizenship rights was agree to provide some measure of support for the malays to improve their economic standing.

If our forefathers had meant for these preferences to last in perpetuity, then there would not have been a request for a review in 15 years.

When I see the compulsory requirement for non-malay companies to hand over a certain portion of their equity to the malays for no input at all, I am tempted to ask: Is this what our forefathers had in mind? I can go on listing the abuses forever because there are plenty of them.

It is intriguing to hear senior BN and Umno leaders repeatedly asking the people to adhere to the social contract. What contract they are referring to? It cannot be the federal constitution. It is most probably some contract that they have entered into unilaterally without the agreement of the non-malays.

So it seems to be incorrect to firstly equate the words 'special position' with 'special rights and privileges'. Secondly, it also seems incorrect to suggest that the malays have special rights and privileges in perpetuity and therefore, that they have a higher status than everyone else.

The non-malays only agreed to allow them preferences over the others for a finite period of time. It has now been almost 50 years since independent but has such a meaningful review of those preferences taken place at all? Absolutely not.

In fact what has happened is that successive BN governments, dominated by Umno, and especially after the 1969 tragedy, have taken the liberty to very liberally interpret Article 153. This has led to the wholesale abuse of the consideration provided by the non-malays in 1957 for their citizenship rights.

It seems to me that the real social contract of 1957 was torn up long ago by the BN government with the way in which the NEP was implemented from the 1970s onwards.

To me, the real social contract of 1957 has long been dead. I hope the day will come when the people of Malaysia in the true independent spirit will make it live again.

Then perhaps, we would not have to spend hundreds of millions ringgit on nonsensical projects like the National Service to inculcate unity amongst the races.

The issue of vernacular primary schools has little to do with national integration. The medium of instruction doesn't matter. The biggest issue of vernacular primary schools is simply that the quality clearly points to the failure of Umno-led BN government, the legitimacy of the very philosophies and policies particularly its hegemonistic malay agenda.

If the vernacular primary schools are allowed to expand, clearly the percentage of malays in these Chinese primary schools would expand striking at the heart of the malay agenda. It would increase integration but not the malay agenda.

There is no proof that different medium of instruction decrease national unity. What would decrease national integration would be if they thought different philosophy - and for example - religion based schools. Even military schools have been shown to breed disintegration of its students from the larger population.

The idea of teaching Mandarin and Tamil to attract non-malays to national schools is a non-starter. Firstly, again the medium of instruction is a low low issue compared to the quality of education, secondly, there is already a severe shortage of Mandarin and Tamil teachers that national schools would never be able to do even a half-past-six job of it.

Thirdly, so long as Islamization of national schools is not stopped in its tracks, non-malays would always avoid it, simply because learning is just harder in a marginalized uncomfortable environment.

Vernacular schools are allowed to continue as it is simply because removing it would be perceived and rightly so, as eroding the citizen rights of non-malays, i.e. the very right of education - the only upward mobility tool the non-malays has. Non-malays second class citizenship will become third class with things like further Islamization of this country.

The issue of vernacular schools is not about national integration, it is about hegemonistic malay agenda. The fact it is an issue points to heart of our national problem.

The special position of the malays as prescribed under Article 153 of the Constitution is limited in scope to only the reservation of reasonable quotas in these 3 sectors: public services, educational places and business licenses.

Hence, the present rampant racial discriminations practiced on almost every facet of our national life are mostly violations of the Constitution. Examples of these violations are:

(a) Racial discrimination in the appointment and promotion of employees in publicly funded bodies, resulting in these becoming almost mono-raced bodies. These bodies include: the police, civil service, army and various semi and quasi government agencies.

(b) Imposition of compulsory share quota for malays in non-malay companies.

(c) Imposition of compulsory price discounts and quotas in favour of malays in housing projects.

(d) Completely lop-sided allocation of scholarships and seats of learning in clearly unreasonable proportions that reflect racial discriminations.

(e) Blanket barring of non-malays to publicly funded academic institutions (that should include the Mara).

(f) Barring of non-malays from tenders and contracts controlled directly or indirectly by the government.

Our Constitution provides for only one class of citizenship and all citizens are equal before the law.

The presence of Article 153 does not alter this fact, as it is meant only to protect the malays from being "squeezed" by other races by allowing the reservation of reasonable quotas on certain sectors of national life.

However, this Constitution has now been hijacked through decades of hegemony of political power by the ruling party to result in the virtual monopoly of the public sector by a single race.

The ensuing racism, corruption and corrosion of integrity of our democratic institutions have brought serious retrogression to our nation-building process in terms of national unity, morality, discipline and competitiveness of our people.

I wish to point out that the Orang Asli, not the malays, are the original inhabitants of Malaysia. Most of the malay Malaysians came from Sumatra and other parts of Indonesia. They only migrated here much earlier than the Chinese and Indian Malaysians. It does not mean they deserve privileges or rights just because they were the pioneer immigrants.

It is true that there have been abuses under the name of malay special rights and it is the duty of the malays in particular, and all Malaysians in general, to stop it so that the rightful malays get their rights, and the non-malays get their rights as citizens of this country.

It is a sad thing to say, but I do believe the main thing that is holding back malays is not the Chinese or the Indians, but the malays themselves. That is why Badawi and Mahathir have been quoted as telling to throw away crutches and work hard to face the challenges of globalisation.

The malay and others of the same mind should learn to stand on their own feet rather than claim for special rights and privileges. The world is becoming globalised and if they don't change their attitude, they will only become beggars in their own country.

As for the malays who insist on hiding behind the veil of malay special rights - you have lost the respect of non-malays a long time ago.

We also suspect that the current situation will, unfortunately, get worse if no action is taken now. Why? Because our kids in school hardly mix with each other. They will grow up with little understanding of their fellow Malaysians, and with the suspicions that exist, it will be worse.

The truth of the matter is that polarisation in Malaysia is caused by the discriminatory practises of the government - especially after the NEP - rather than vernacular education.

The NEP is upheld for the rich and not the poor in Malaysia.

Whether we admit it or not, the problem is that the special rights and privileges given have now resulted in only a selected few malays getting richer and richer. The bulk of the malays, especially in the rural areas are not benefiting from the system.

Poor people are poor people, rich people are rich people - no matter which race they come from.

The poor in Malaysia must be served but I am sure all taxpayers feel that this should be done in a manner which is blind to age, ethnicity, gender and religion.

What is wrong with extending help to all deserving citizens based on merits and needs regardless of race?

The Malaysia problem is that rich do become richer. And because of the political system, the players are the same.

Out of control - this is all I can say about any type of enforcement and the level of corruption in Malaysia. No idea what Badawi has done in his four years in office but judging from the ground, I guess nothing much.

If you have ever heard of the simple saying, "Give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach him how to fish and he eats for a lifetime." you will realise that many non-malays have learned how to fish but the government is still handing out fishes to the malays. One day the fish will run out.

If you want to say discrimination is here in the US, yes, of course it is. Can you name a country where it doesn't happen? But let me tell you one thing - if you go looking for it, you will find it. But in Malaysia, you don't have to go look for it because it seeks you out, slaps you in your face every which way you turn, and is sanctioned by law!

Official figures have more than one million Chinese Malaysians emigrating over the past 25 years. Why did they emigrate? I am sure the government knows.

For most professionals, living abroad has its own ups and downs. But you get dignity, fair treatment and respect for your ability. You get a voice too. And ears to hear you.

Brain drain by the tank-loads is what we get. Every single year, Malaysia loses people who could potentially contribute to the country immensely.

So malay, you may keep your rights and perpetuate them. Such things are archaic. Who loses in the end? Your country, which should have been a first world one by today.

I sympathize with those that have benefited from the NEP, but the bad news is that the price he pays for his progress is much higher than what he pays for his benefit.

These special rights and privileges were once a necessity for them to move forward. Today, after many decades, they find themselves still standing in the same place.

It is a shame that our history has been constantly twisted so that our younger generation has no understanding of Malaysia's foundation and its true aspiration.

It is arguable that if not for the contributions of the Chinese and Indian Malaysians who helped in the development of this country tremendously, Malaysia would probably be in same category like Indonesia or the Philippines, if not worst.

To improve the malays lot, more have to be made to work in private companies where competition is real and what count is your ability. If special rights only help malays to become government servants, then all the more reason not to invoke special rights.

But of course, the present ruling elite drunken with wealth, will continue to fight this dream to ensure that Malaysia is kept divided so that BN can continue to rule.

Alternatively, Malaysians may begin to realise the dream of a new Malaysia.

The bitter truth is that the majority of this nation don't see the need to change things yet and until then, we can do little about it.

The bottom line with present day globalisation is this: compete on a level-playing field or you will lose. Plain and simple.

updated:2007-08-16 18:47:37 MYT

This what makes Malaysia a hypocrite... are we not a democratic country? Shouldn't the government listen to its people? But no, it appears that again and again that our government choose to silence its people. They have been hiding all the problems in their closets and hoping/praying 5 times a day that the people won't care.

Hoping that everything will go well forever... but seriously does the world history tell you that you can keep the world from what the people really want? No dictators last forever even if the leaders change but the people will eventually overpower the ideals even if it comes to force..

Malaysia needs to grow up and if it wish to survive and truly believe in peace and harmony, then the head must first believe in equality and listen to the people's needs. Stop being a hypocrite and blame it on a young man who is just trying to voice out his needs as a Malaysian.

Hi Nazri,
Did u know that any criticism must be supported by facts.

Apparently, Nazri is brainless to ask 冠英 such question. 冠英 should LOL at him. Memang tak ada otak...LOL

"bocor" case is insulting not only the woman in Malaysia. It insults all the woman in the WORLD..include his mother. How come Government does not take legal action to punish him? He is adult and he is member of Parliament.

Negaraku menrujuk kepada siapa? Negaraku hanya untuk malaysia?

Bagaimana pula jika tajuknya menjadi Negaraku Malaysia.

How sad. Think about it. Hanya MALAYSIAKU GEMILANG sahaja yang kedengaran masa kini.

WHERE IS THE ACTION AGAINST TO POSTING IN KPMU?????

DOUBLE STANDARD!! DISCRIMINATION

http://www.kpmu.net/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=129

Action Against UMNO Supporters' Website?
As mentioned in my previous post, I lodged a police report on a highly seditious and incendiary article posted only by Kelab Penyokong Maya Umno (KPMU). This has also been reported in Malaysiakini today.

The whole point of the article was to insinuate and accuse the fact that Raja Petra Raja Kamarudin was not a true Muslim but instead a closet Christian, but in doing so proceeded to hurl various hurtful, unfounded and grossly insulting remarks with regards to Christianity and its believers.

Raja Petra himself have responded to the article by rightly pointing out that if KPMU, whom Raja Petra accused of being the Cyber Troopers engaged by UMNO, has a bone to pick with him, then pick the fight with him, and not go one to hurl uncalled for insults using coarse language at others, including his family members and the Christian community.

I urge the Kelab Penyokong Maya Umno boys to play fair. Call me a swindler, someone who runs away to Thailand to secretly marry the Sultan’s daughter, gay, sex pervert who shags animals, male prostitute, gambler, mother-fxxxer, or anything at all you so wish. I can take it.

I appeal to the Kelab Penyokong Maya Umno boys to be a bit more sensitive to the feelings of Christians. By all means engage Malaysia Today. But please spare the Christians.

While the "insulting Agung and Islam" case against Raja Petra lodged by UMNO has been incredulously based on comments left on his blog, in this case, the owners and editors of the site have published KPMU's article which is really a direct insult to a multi-racial and multi-religion Malaysians.

Hence we can only hope that the police will be equally efficient in calling up the Editor of KPMU, a Dato' Siddiq Akmal Ismail for interrogation within 2 days of the report being filed. So far, after a day, I've just been asked to make my statement at the Mutiara Damansara police post earlier this evening. (no

Like the cases of Malaysiakini in 2004 and Nathaniel Tan a month ago, their computers were confiscated, will the Police do likewise to KPMU since the hosting company is based in Kuching and the data centre is located in Telekom Malaysia?

For the police report, I've specifically taken the liberty of using the summary extracts compiled by 5xMom

Repot Polis Bertarikh 7hb Ogos 2007

Sebaliknya dia beragama Kristian.

We look forward to the fair and just Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who has preached responsibility in blogging, who is also the Internal Security Minister, to act without fear or favour.

What are you afraid people? Are you afraid that if you do not vote BN your life will become jeopardy?
I think if you keep on voting for them, they will become more arrogant. Sooner or later, in this so called DEMOCRATIC nation, there will be no more citizen say, it's UMNO say... We have already lost the freedom of speech. What more do you wanna lose? freedom to act? freedom to express? freedom to vote? think about your future.
If you think that your vote doesnt matter, and BN is gonna win anyway, think again. Every vote matters. If in this electon we cant get 2/3 majority, at least get 1/2 majority. That would at least makes the leader think twice before acting so foolishly.
